Carl Hamilton once had a family, who were lost in an act of retaliation, so the kidnapping of his 7-year-old goddaughter brings back painful memories. When the reason for the kidnapping becomes clear, Swedish authorities take a passive role –which forces Hamilton to act. With the help of his international connections, Hamilton manages to trace the kidnappers. The political game makes the culprits feel secure in their homeland and they do not foresee Hamilton bringing a group of military colleagues together for a rescue action.
