Maria, a lady who has just been widowed, is about to lose her house and move into a nursing home. Suddenly, a grandson she had never met shows up. His name is Poncho and he is at risk of going to a orphanage if no family member takes care of him. Maria agrees to take custody of the young boy. To solve her financial problems, she decides to reopen her business, the Mama Cake bakery. The huge success of selling cakes and pastries with a "special" touch cause many problems with her sister-in-law, who wants the house for herself; the local drug dealer Hans, and the police.
